Personal Academic Mentorship for 12th Graders Aiming for Highly Selective Programs
Our guiding principle for 12th graders is simple: you must have clarity about your academic interests. This is a mentorship program, not general life coaching.
Guidance with identifying a successful college list customized to your profile and preferences, with strategic intended majors/minors for each school per insider and public data (including ideal options for recruited athletes). You complete AtssLay’s college selection questionnaire form, then we help you curate a balanced set of “reach,” “target,” and “likely” schools that fit your long-term goals and budget — especially US early-round vs. regular-round strategy.
Guidance with identifying all three required recommenders (counselor and two subject teachers) who will write the strongest letters of recommendation for you. Guidance also with submitting a “brag sheet” that highlights key achievements, skills, and anecdotes to your recommenders so that your letters are truly personal and effective.
Guidance with deciding whether additional SAT or ACT dates will be needed and how to ensure the scores are submitted in time for college application review, now that most elite universities are no longer test-optional. Specialized support for UK entry exams and required English language proficiency exams (for English-as-second-language applicants).
Guidance with identifying a successful macro-level theme for all essays as well as nuanced micro-level topics for primary long-form personal essay (US), long-form statement of purpose (UK, continental European universities), and short answer or supplemental essays (US, Canada, Singapore, etc.), via AtssLay’s essay map visualizer. Brainstorming, outlining, and editing support for drafts, via multi-level layers of review from AtssLay’s Creative Center specialists.
Review of your intermediate application via AtssLay’s internal mock admissions committee, a team of in-house experts modeled after real-life admissions committee procedures. Application scored using official numerical frameworks used by real-life admissions committees.
Detailed US (non-evaluative) and UK (evaluative) interview preparation from AtssLay’s in-house Mentors and trusted partners, elite alumni who have often served as official interviewers for their alma maters, using official interviewer guidelines. AtssLay’s mock interview score and evaluation form provides concrete guidance for successful official interviews.
Guidance with applying for financial aid and merit scholarships, via in-house experts familiar with the process. Guidance also with obtaining a student visa, via our trusted immigration specialist partners, if applicable.
Undergraduate admissions-specific course modules, hosted by AtssLay’s in-house specialists and occasional elite alumni guests, that meet weekly over several sessions and confer insider knowledge and resources regarding specific application components, e.g. the US Common App Essay, UK Personal Statement, and US supplements. As each course culminates in a completed draft, you learn skills of personal branding and self-presentation.
Guidance with submission of additional material for schools that “defer” (postpone) their final result to the final application round or place you on the waitlist. Brainstorming, outlining, and editing support for your letter of continued interest (LOCI), via AtssLay’s Creative Center specialists, showcasing updates such as new grades or test scores, media coverage, and awards that help secure a successful admission.
